Focus areas of CSIRS-UIU
The Center for Smart Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability (CSIRS) at United International University is a premier research institute dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary studies, knowledge dissemination, and industry collaboration. With a focus on resilient and sustainable infrastructure, CSIRS aims to enhance the quality of life in Bangladesh while contributing to the nation’s economic development. Located at the UIU Campus in United City, Madani Avenue, Dhaka, CSIRS continues to push the boundaries of research and innovation.
Kingsley Group’s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
As a pioneer in wastewater treatment solutions, Kingsley Group has consistently demonstrated its dedication to preserving the environment. With a proven track record of establishing a number of successful Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), Central or Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) Plant and Water Treatment Plants (WTP) in different corners of the world, Kingsley remains at the forefront of sustainable technologies wastewater treatment and management. The company’s collaboration with academic institutions, including CSIRS-UIU, reflects its commitment to fostering innovation and nurturing the next generation of environmental engineers and researchers.
Contribution for research through a State-of-the-Art Pilot STP
As a significant gesture of support for research and education, Kingsley has donated a fully functional pilot Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to CSIRS-UIU. This advanced system, with a capacity of 200 liters per hour, is designed to provide hands-on research scope and learning opportunities for students.
The pilot STP incorporates multiple advanced technologies and components, including:
- Equalization Chamber: An Equalization Tank balances the flow and concentration of incoming wastewater, ensuring consistent treatment efficiency. It is designed with proper aeration and mixing mechanisms to prevent sedimentation and odor generation.
- Oxidation Chamber with Bio-Film Media: The Oxidation Chamber with bio-film media maximizes microbial activity on its media surface, promoting effective organic matter removal.
- Clarifier with V-Notch Weir: Equipped with a V-Notch Weir, the Clarifier ensures accurate overflow control while facilitating effective solid-liquid separation.
- MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) Chamber: This chamber integrates biological treatment and membrane filtration, ensuring high-quality effluent with minimal suspended solids. It is ideal for compact systems requiring advanced wastewater treatment.
- UV Disinfection Chamber: The UV Disinfection Chamber uses high-intensity ultraviolet light to inactivate microorganisms, ensuring pathogen-free effluent without chemical additives. It offers reliable, eco-friendly water sterilization.
- Control Panel: The Control Panel provides centralized management of system operations, featuring automated controls of blowers, pumps and agitators, real-time monitoring, and safety interlocks. It ensures efficiency, trouble-shooting and reliable process performance.
This advance pilot plant offers a prime testing ground for cutting-edge wastewater treatment technologies, such as Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) systems and the widely acclaimed Activated Sludge Process (ASP), renowned for its superior performance and dependability for waste water treatment.
