Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology is widely recognized as one of the most advanced wastewater treatment solutions available today. Over the past decade, many industries in Bangladesh, particularly the textile and tannery sectors have invested heavily in foreign-supplied MBR ETP/STP systems, including well-known brands such as Veolia’s ZeeWeed500D.
However, a growing number of plant owners are now facing serious operational challenges. Most European suppliers lack local after-sales service support in Bangladesh, resulting in prolonged downtime, unresolved membrane fouling issues, and partial or complete system failure. In many cases, damaged or clogged MBR membranes have significantly reduced treatment efficiency, placing factories at risk of non-compliance. Adding to the challenge, MBR membrane repair or replacement is one of the most expensive components of an ETP or STP, often costing more than other mechanical or electrical equipment. Without local technical expertise, industries are left struggling to keep their plants operational and compliant.

A Practical Local Solution for Damaged MBR Systems

Local MBR supply and retrofit services were virtually unavailable in Bangladesh 10 years ago. That landscape has changed today. Several Bangladeshi engineering firms now offer MBR membrane replacement, retrofitting, and after-sales service, providing industries with a cost-effective and reliable alternative to foreign OEMs.
Among these, Kingsley Engineering Service Corporation stands out as a trusted local solution provider with global exposure and proven project experience. Kingsley has strong collaborative partnership with the Netherlands, China, and Australia, enabling access to international-grade MBR technology while delivering fast local support in Bangladesh. Kingsley has successfully implemented and retrofitted multiple Hollow Fiber MBR-based ETP and STP projects, including:

  • Bay Tannery ETP (Retrofit)
  • Bay Economic Zone ETP (50 m³/hr)
  • BGMEA Complex MBR STP (5.2 m³/hr)
  • Cotton Club BD Ltd. MBR STP (11.5 m³/hr)
  • Eco Intimates Ltd. MBR STP (15 m³/hr)

These projects demonstrate Kingsley’s capability to restore, upgrade, and optimize large-scale MBR treatment plants, even where original suppliers are no longer active.

Advanced MBR Membrane Technology

Kingsley supplies and retrofits high-performance MBR membranes engineered to meet or exceed the technical standards of leading European brands like ZeeWeed from Veolia.
High-Grade Materials: Membrane material composition includes PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride), PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), and ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) used in structural components. PVDF purity is more than 85%, ensuring superior chemical resistance and long-term durability. The hydrophilic PVDF hollow fiber membrane is manufactured using Thermally Induced Phase Separation (TIPS) technology. The PET inner reinforcement provides:

  • Tensile strength ≥ 600 N
  • Porosity ≥ 60%
  • Normal pore size 0.04 µm
  • High flux ≥ 20 L/m²·h

Pore size ≈ 0.04 µm ensures excellent solid–liquid separation. It provides strong tolerance to typical MBR cleaning chemicals and operational pH ranges. ISO certification and pore size test reports are also available upon request. Depending upon project requirements, Kingsley can supply membranes with tensile strength up to 600 N or higher, supported by official test certificates.
One common issue with older membranes is that after several years of operation, the membrane fibers tend to contract, requiring adjustments to their length. Our product features the latest technology, ensuring that the membrane fibers do not shrink and can be used as it is. This significantly reduces long-term maintenance effort and operational risk.

Policy: With proper operation and CIP procedures, Kingsley’s MBR membranes offer:

  • Design lifespan: up to 7 years
  • Warranty: 4 years on MBR membranes, among the strongest in the local market

The Maintenance Policy is the same as ZeeWeed500D.

What Makes Kingsley Different?

Access to Renowned Global Technology Partners: Kingsley ensures system reliability by sourcing critical equipment from globally recognized manufacturers like BK, Aerzen, Robuschi, Sprintex, Motian, Motimo & Feymer. The company has supplied both plate-type and hollow fiber MBR membranes, tailored to plant capacity, wastewater characteristics, and operating conditions.
Expert CIP Services for MBR Membranes: Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) is essential for restoring membrane permeability and extending membrane life. Kingsley is one of the few companies in Bangladesh with proven hands-on expertise in MBR CIP operations, using correct chemical protocols, recovery monitoring, and operational safety standards.
Strong Warranty & Reliable After-Sales Support: Kingsley offers one of the most comprehensive warranty packages in the local market that includes 2 years warranty for the complete ETP/STP system & 4 years warranty for MBR membranes. During the warranty period, any malfunction or operational issue is addressed immediately, ensuring that the treatment plant remains operational and factory production never stops.

FAQ

What is MBR retrofitting?

MBR retrofitting involves replacing or upgrading membranes, aeration, automation, and controls in an existing ETP/STP to restore performance and extend plant life.

Can damaged MBR membranes be replaced without the original supplier?

Yes. Local providers like Kingsley can supply compatible membranes and retrofit systems even when OEM support is unavailable.

What types of MBR membranes are available?

Both hollow fiber and plate type MBR membranes are available, depending on plant capacity and wastewater characteristics.

How durable are replacement MBR membranes?

With proper operation and CIP, high-quality membranes can last a few years depending on loading and maintenance. Kingsley provides a solid 5 years warranty for MBR membranes.
